Call for the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes

There are two UNESCO International Literacy Prizes, the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize (with the support of the Government of the Republic of Korea) and the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy (with the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China), the 2020 thematic focus is:

“Teaching and learning literacy: The role of educators and changing pedagogies”.


It is strongly recommended that the nomination proposals take into account the theme of the 2020 edition and the specific focus of each prize:


The nomination process is made through an online platform. The candidates will be able to access the application form requesting the creation of a user account through the following link:

In accordance with the statutes of the prizes, each Member State may submit a maximum of 3 nominations for the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy and 2 for the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize. The nomination proposals (in English or in French) must  be submitted in consultation with the respective national commission for UNESCO, the deadline for submission of nominations is Monday, June 19 2020.
