Desde la <strong>C\u00e1tedra UNESCO<\/strong> queremos recordar que las personas mayores son los transmisores de nuestra historia, cultura, sabidur\u00eda y valores y a su vez, constituyen un pilar fundamental para la identidad familiar y son la base de la denominada \"transmisi\u00f3n oral\" y \"cultura tradicional\", ense\u00f1anzas, conocimientos y experiencias que los j\u00f3venes reciben verbalmente de sus padres y mayores.\n\nPor todo ello es evidente que la transmisi\u00f3n oral ha sido y es, la primera manera que ha tenido la Humanidad de transmitir su cultura de generaci\u00f3n en generaci\u00f3n y que ha facilitado que una comunidad tenga sus propias se\u00f1as de identidad.\n\nEsta cultura tradicional, en poblaciones rurales donde hab\u00eda un alto \u00edndice de analfabetismo, fue la \u00fanica fuente de adquisici\u00f3n de conocimientos, que en ocasiones, a falta de normativa jur\u00eddica concreta, ha hecho las veces de ley escrita. De esta manera queda contemplado y recogido en el C\u00f3digo Civil, que reconoce a la costumbre como fuente general del derecho.\n\nEsta festividad se lleva a cabo desde 1998 y ha sido promovida por ONGS como Mensajeros por la Paz.
