PLAN DE EMERGENCIA EN EL PARQUE NACIONAL RAPA NUI<\/h3>\t\t\t

El Parque Nacional Rapa Nui<\/strong> presenta 7.150 hect\u00e1reas, abarcando casi el 44% del total de la isla del Pac\u00edfico Sur. En octubre de 2022, m\u00e1s de 100 hect\u00e1reas se incendiaron, resultando gravemente da\u00f1adas.<\/p>\n

La UNESCO<\/strong>, a trav\u00e9s de un fondo de emergencia, tiene como objetivo ayudar a la comunidad local para iniciar la recuperaci\u00f3n del terreno.<\/p>\n

En marzo de 2023, esta organizaci\u00f3n inici\u00f3 las acciones de respuesta correspondientes para poner soluci\u00f3n a la situaci\u00f3n creada por los incendios en la isla de Chile. Estas acciones incluyen una estimaci\u00f3n detallada de los da\u00f1os, el desarrollo de un plan integral de preparaci\u00f3n, coordinaci\u00f3n y gesti\u00f3n para el sitio del Patrimonio Mundial; el dise\u00f1o de protocolos de preparaci\u00f3n y respuesta ante emergencias, adem\u00e1s del desarrollo de capacidades a nivel local.<\/p>\n

La comunidad ind\u00edgena rapanui Ma\u2019u Henua, elabor\u00f3 un informe post incendio en el que se explicaba que decenas de vestigios arqueol\u00f3gicos resultaron da\u00f1ados por el fuego. Los incendios afectaron al cr\u00e1ter con especial gravedad y a la cantera del volc\u00e1n Rano a Raraku, donde se ubican m\u00e1s de 400 moais, en un lugar de gran importancia espiritual y valor patrimonial.<\/p>\n

La UNESCO realiz\u00f3 una visita de emergencia en octubre de 2022 y, con el apoyo de entidades gubernamentales nacionales, locales y de la sociedad civil, consigui\u00f3 un fondo de 97.000 d\u00f3lares para poder llevar a cabo el plan de emergencia y gesti\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Claudia Uribe, representante de la UNESCO en Chile explicaba que \u201cel plan de diagn\u00f3stico, gesti\u00f3n y recuperaci\u00f3n desde la UNESCO, pretende apoyar a Rapa Nui en el restablecimiento del sitio de Patrimonio Mundial tras los incendios sufridos, as\u00ed como reforzar las capacidades en la isla para prevenir futuros desastres y para responder de manera oportuna y coordinada frente a cualquier calamidad. La econom\u00eda y el bienestar de los habitantes de Rapa Nui y de las generaciones futuras est\u00e1n \u00edntimamente ligados a la conservaci\u00f3n de su enorme legado cultural\u201d.<\/p>\n

Las acciones tambi\u00e9n cuentan con intervenciones educativas y cuenta con un equipo multidisciplinar y local, bajo la supervisi\u00f3n de la UNESCO en Santiago, Chile. Adem\u00e1s, se realizar\u00e1 una campa\u00f1a de sensibilizaci\u00f3n sobre la importancia de proteger el patrimonio y se apoyar\u00e1 al Estado de Chile para el seguimiento y coordinaci\u00f3n de la recuperaci\u00f3n. Este Fondo de Emergencia para el Patrimonio de la UNESCO<\/strong>, con sus correspondientes acciones se inicia en marzo de 2023.<\/p>\n

__<\/p>\n

EMERGENCY PLAN IN RAPA NUI NATIONAL PARK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rapa Nui National Park<\/strong> has 7,150 hectares, covering almost 44% of the total area of the South Pacific island. In October 2022, more than 100 hectares caught fire, resulting in severe damage.<\/p>\n

UNESCO<\/strong>, through an emergency fund, aims to help the local community to start the recovery of the land.<\/p>\n

In March 2023, this organization initiated the corresponding response actions to resolve the situation created by the fires on the island of Chile. These actions include a detailed damage estimate; the development of a comprehensive preparedness, coordination and management plan for the World Heritage site; the design of emergency preparedness and response protocols; and capacity building at the local level.<\/p>\n

The indigenous Rapa Nui community, Ma’u Henua, prepared a post-fire report explaining that dozens of archaeological remains were damaged by fire. The fires affected the crater with particular severity and the quarry of the Rano a Raraku volcano, where more than 400 moais are located, in a place of great spiritual importance and heritage value.
\nUNESCO conducted an emergency visit in October 2022 and, with the support of national, local governmental and civil society entities, secured a fund of US$97,000 to carry out the emergency and management plan.<\/p>\n

Claudia Uribe, UNESCO representative in Chile explained that “UNESCO’s diagnostic, management and recovery plan aims to support Rapa Nui in the restoration of the World Heritage site after the fires suffered, as well as to strengthen the island’s capacity to prevent future disasters and to respond in a timely and coordinated manner to any calamity. The economy and well-being of Rapa Nui’s inhabitants and future generations are intimately linked to the conservation of its enormous cultural legacy”.<\/p>\n

The actions also include educational interventions and a multidisciplinary and local team, under the supervision of UNESCO in Santiago, Chile. In addition, an awareness campaign on the importance of protecting heritage will be carried out and support will be provided to the State of Chile for the monitoring and coordination of the recovery. This UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund<\/strong>, with its corresponding actions, will start in March 2023.<\/p>\n
