TORRES VIG\u00cdA DE COSTA<\/h3>\t\t\t

Las torres de vigilancia costera<\/strong> son un conjunto de torres vig\u00eda que se construyeron hacia el siglo XV en las costas del este y sur de Espa\u00f1a con la finalidad de defender las tierras de los ataques de los piratas berberiscos, provenientes de \u00c1frica. Algunas torres remontan su construcci\u00f3n a la dinast\u00eda nazar\u00ed y la mayor\u00eda de ellas, estuvieron en uso hasta el siglo XIX.<\/p>\n

Hacia el a\u00f1o 1516, la costa del Mediterr\u00e1neo se encontraba amenazada por los ataques de los piratas berberiscos que, al desembarcar en la costa, asolaban y saqueaban ciudades y asentamientos rurales. Fue el rey Carlos I de Espa\u00f1a quien pens\u00f3 en este sistema defensivo basado en la construcci\u00f3n de torres de vigilancia que permitieran controlar todo el per\u00edmetro de la costa mediterr\u00e1nea. As\u00ed, en 1526, comenzaron a levantarse torres en Murcia, en la zona de La Manga del Mar Menor y la de Cabo de Palos, en Cartagena, considerado puerto estrat\u00e9gico. Sin embargo, la gran mayor\u00eda de las torres fueron levantadas durante el reinado de su hijo Felipe II.<\/p>\n

Recorriendo la cuenca mediterr\u00e1nea, algunas de las torres vig\u00eda, las cuales, se consideran patrimonio por su gran valor hist\u00f3rico, son las siguientes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Torre de Sant Sebasti\u00e0: se encuentra en Girona, Costa Brava y fue construida en el siglo XV sobre el acantilado Salt de Romaboira y junto a un faro y yacimiento \u00edbero. Se encuentra a 165 metros sobre el nivel del mar.<\/li>\n
  • Torre Nostra: se sit\u00faa en Torreblanca (Castell\u00f3n). Data del siglo XVII u se encuentra en una zona aislada, actualmente atrapada entre viviendas en el paseo mar\u00edtimo de la localidad.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de Piles en Valencia: fue construida con piedra de la zona y grava de r\u00edo. Esta torre fue concebida con dos plantas, utilizando la primera como caballeriza y la superior como puesto de vigilancia.<\/li>\n
  • Torre del Gerro: se encuentra en Alicante y presenta una altura de 13.5 metros. Fue construida en el siglo XVI y su forma de jarr\u00f3n (gerro) le otorga su nombre.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de ses \u00c0nimes en Mallorca: se ubica en plena Sierra de Tramuntana y fue construida en 1579, yaciendo envuelta entre el mar.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de los Caballos en Mazarr\u00f3n (Murcia): fue construida en el siglo XVI en las Gredas de Bolnuevo de la bah\u00eda de Mazarr\u00f3n.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de la Garrofa en Almer\u00eda: esta atalaya se encuentra anexionada a un conjunto de alojamiento equipado con camas de matrimonio, ba\u00f1os y vistas a la costa almeriense.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de Cerro Gordo: se encuentra en Granada, entre pinos y \u00e1rboles de aguacate. Fue construida en el siglo XVI formando un mapa estrat\u00e9gico con otros puntos que se conectaban por se\u00f1ales de humo y fogatas nocturnas como aviso.<\/li>\n
  • Torre de la Sal en M\u00e1laga: esta atalaya tiene una instalaci\u00f3n de una salina cercana que permite almacenar toda la sal extra\u00edda.<\/li>\n
  • Torre Tavira: se ubica en C\u00e1diz: presenta 33 metros de altura y fue construida en el siglo XVIII y ofrece como principal experiencia una c\u00e1mara oscura, instrumento \u00f3ptimo que permite obtener una panor\u00e1mica \u00fanica.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Estas construcciones, pensadas y edificadas para una funci\u00f3n crucial, sigue formando parte, hoy, de nuestro paisaje mediterr\u00e1neo.<\/p>\n

    COASTAL WATCHTOWERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The coastal watchtowers are a set of watchtowers that were built around the fifteenth century on the coasts of eastern and southern Spain in order to defend the land from attacks by Barbary pirates from Africa. Some towers date back to the Nasrid dynasty and most of them were in use until the 19th century.<\/p>\n

    By 1516, the Mediterranean coast was threatened by the attacks of the Barbary pirates who, landing on the coast, ravaged and plundered cities and rural settlements. It was King Charles I of Spain who thought of this defensive system based on the construction of watchtowers to control the entire perimeter of the Mediterranean coast. Thus, in 1526, towers began to be erected in Murcia, in the area of La Manga del Mar Menor and Cabo de Palos, in Cartagena, considered a strategic port. However, most of the towers were erected during the reign of his son Philip II.<\/p>\n

    Some of the watchtowers in the Mediterranean basin, which are considered heritage because of their great historical value, are the following:<\/p>\n

    – Tower of Sant Sebasti\u00e0: it is located in Girona, Costa Brava and was built in the 15th century on the cliff Salt de Romaboira and next to a lighthouse and Iberian site. It is 165 meters above sea level.
    \n– Torre Nostra: it is located in Torreblanca (Castell\u00f3n). It dates back to the 17th century and is located in an isolated area, currently trapped between houses on the town’s seafront promenade.
    \n– Tower of Piles in Valencia: it was built with local stone and river gravel. This tower was conceived with two floors, using the first floor as a stable and the upper floor as a guard post.
    \n– Torre del Gerro: it is located in Alicante and is 13.5 meters high. It was built in the 16th century and its vase shape (gerro) gives it its name.
    \n– Torre de ses \u00c0nimes in Mallorca: it is located in the middle of the Sierra de Tramuntana and was built in 1579, lying wrapped between the sea.
    \n– Torre de los Caballos in Mazarr\u00f3n (Murcia): it was built in the 16th century in the Gredas de Bolnuevo in the bay of Mazarr\u00f3n.
    \n– Torre de la Garrofa in Almeria: this watchtower is annexed to an accommodation complex equipped with double beds, bathrooms and views of the Almeria coast.
    \n– Cerro Gordo Tower: it is located in Granada, between pines and avocado trees. It was built in the 16th century forming a strategic map with other points that were connected by smoke signals and nightly bonfires as a warning.
    \n– Torre de la Sal in Malaga: this watchtower has a nearby salt mine installation that allows the storage of all the salt extracted.
    \n– Tavira Tower: it is located in Cadiz: it is 33 meters high and was built in the 18th century and offers as its main experience a camera obscura, an optimal instrument that allows to obtain a unique panoramic view.<\/p>\n

    These constructions, designed and built for a crucial function, are still part of our Mediterranean landscape today.<\/p>\n
