D\u00cdA INTERNACIONAL DE LA EDUCACI\u00d3N<\/h3>\t\t\t

El 24 de enero se celebra el D\u00eda Internacional de la Educaci\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas proclam\u00f3 el 24 de enero como el D\u00eda Internacional de la Educaci\u00f3n, con la finalidad de ensalzar el papel que desempe\u00f1a la educaci\u00f3n en la paz y el desarrollo.<\/p>\n

El derecho a la educaci\u00f3n se encuentra en la Declaraci\u00f3n Universal de los Derechos Humanos, exigiendo una educaci\u00f3n primaria gratuita y obligatoria. La Convenci\u00f3n sobre los Derechos del Ni\u00f1o, adoptada en 1989, va m\u00e1s all\u00e1, estableciendo la educaci\u00f3n superior como accesible para todos.<\/p>\n

A su vez, en la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible, toda la comunidad internacional reconoci\u00f3 el car\u00e1cter esencial de la educaci\u00f3n para conseguir los 17 objetivos marcados. El Objetivo n\u00famero 4, en concreto, tiene como t\u00edtulo \u201cEducaci\u00f3n de calidad\u201d y persigue la garant\u00eda de una educaci\u00f3n de calidad inclusiva y equitativa, as\u00ed como promover oportunidades de aprendizaje permanente para todos.<\/p>\n

Pese a todos estos objetivos, seg\u00fan los datos de la Organizaci\u00f3n de Naciones Unidas, todav\u00eda son 244 millones de ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes los que se encuentran sin escolarizar; 617 millones de adolescentes no pueden leer ni tienen los conocimientos b\u00e1sicos de disciplinas como las matem\u00e1ticas. Adem\u00e1s, menos del 40% de las ni\u00f1as de \u00c1frica Subsahariana completan los estudios de secundaria de ciclo inferior y unos 4 millones de ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes refugiados no pueden asistir a la escuela.<\/p>\n

De esta manera, el aprendizaje es una herramienta transformadora y contribuye a dotar a los estudiantes de conocimientos, valores, actitudes, competencias y comportamientos necesarios para poder convertirse en agentes de paz en sus propias comunidades.<\/p>\n

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Education Day to highlight the role of education in peace and development.<\/p>\n

The right to education is found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, calling for free and compulsory primary education. The Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989, goes further, establishing higher education as accessible to all.<\/p>\n

In turn, in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the entire international community recognised the essential nature of education in order to achieve the 17 goals set. Goal 4, in particular, is entitled \u201cQuality education\u201d and aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.<\/p>\n

Despite all these goals, according to the United Nations, 244 million children and young people are still out of school; 617 million adolescents cannot read or have basic knowledge of subjects such as mathematics. In addition, less than 40 per cent of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school and some 4 million refugee children and youth are unable to attend school.<\/p>\n

In this way, learning is a transformative tool and helps to equip learners with the knowledge, values, attitudes, skills and behaviours necessary to become agents of peace in their own communities.<\/p>\n
