LOS RESIDUOS TEXTILES<\/h3>\t\t\t

La llamada \u201cmoda r\u00e1pida\u201d<\/strong> ha provocado que la cantidad de ropa que se produce aumente, pero a la vez que aumenta la producci\u00f3n, tambi\u00e9n lo hace el n\u00famero de prendas que se tiran.<\/p>\n

La Uni\u00f3n Europea desea reducir los residuos textiles, prologando la vida de estos productos, aumentando su reciclado y modificando algunas condiciones poco sostenibles que se dan en el proceso de producci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

La industria textil y de confecci\u00f3n mundial utiliz\u00f3, en 2015, 79.000 millones de metros c\u00fabicos de agua. Por poner un ejemplo, para elaborar una sola camiseta de algod\u00f3n, se estima que se necesitan 2.700 litros de agua dulce, lo que equivale a la cantidad de agua que una persona bebe en dos a\u00f1os y medio.<\/p>\n

Por otro lado, seg\u00fan afirmaciones del Parlamento europeo, la producci\u00f3n textil es responsable de aproximadamente el 20% de la contaminaci\u00f3n mundial de agua potable por los tintes y productos de acabado. Los micropl\u00e1sticos que contienen los textiles se liberan durante los primeros lavados. El concepto de \u201cmoda r\u00e1pida\u201d, de hecho, fomenta que se produzcan muchos de estos primeros lavados debido a la producci\u00f3n en masa, con precios bajos y gran volumen de ventas. As\u00ed, el lavado de ropa sint\u00e9tica representa el 35% de los micropl\u00e1sticos primarios liberados en el medio ambiente. Una sola carga de ropa de poli\u00e9ster puede verter 700.000 fibras micropl\u00e1sticas que pueden llegar a la cadena alimentaria. Gran parte de estos residuos micropl\u00e1sticos han acabado en el fondo de los oc\u00e9anos y provoca un impacto muy negativo en la salud de la poblaci\u00f3n local, los animales y los ecosistemas donde se ubican las f\u00e1bricas.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, la industria de la moda provoca el 10% de las emisiones mundiales de carbono, m\u00e1s que los vuelos internacionales y el transporte mar\u00edtimo combinados. Seg\u00fan al Agencia Europea de Medio Ambiente, en 2020, las compras de textiles en la UE generaron alrededor de 270 kg de emisiones de CO2 por persona.<\/p>\n

Solamente entre 2000 y 2015, la producci\u00f3n de ropa se duplic\u00f3. En Europa se consumen casi 26 kg y se desprenden de unos 11 kg de textiles cada a\u00f1o. La ropa usada, en un 87%, acaba siendo depositada en vertederos.<\/p>\n

De acuerdo con la directiva sobre los residuos aprobada por el Parlamento Europeo en 2018, los Estados miembros tienen que establecer una recogida separada de los textiles antes de 2025. Las nuevas medidas tambi\u00e9n incluyen la acci\u00f3n de abordar la presencia de sustancias qu\u00edmicas peligrosas, aumentar la responsabilidad de los fabricantes durante toda la cadena de valor, incluso cuando se convierten en residuos y, ayudar a los consumidores a elegir productos textiles sostenibles.<\/p>\n

Desde Ocean Art Project, proyecto de C\u00e1tedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural UPV, se pretende concienciar a j\u00f3venes y ni\u00f1os sobre esta problem\u00e1tica, dando siempre una visi\u00f3n positiva de esperanza hacia el futuro. Con ello, en enero de 2024, se realiz\u00f3 el curso \u201cODS 14: Los tintes naturales para la conservaci\u00f3n sostenible del medio marino\u201d a trav\u00e9s del CEFIRE GVA a docentes de infantil, primaria y secundaria, con el objetivo de que puedan trasladar la informaci\u00f3n a sus alumnos.<\/p>\n

So-called “fast fashion”<\/strong> has led to an increase in the amount of clothes being produced, but as production increases, so does the number of garments being thrown away.<\/p>\n

The European Union wants to reduce textile waste<\/strong> by extending the life of textiles, increasing recycling and changing some of the unsustainable conditions in the production process.<\/p>\n

The global textile and clothing industry used 79 billion cubic metres of water in 2015. For example, to produce a single cotton T-shirt, it is estimated that 2,700 litres of fresh water are needed, which is equivalent to the amount of water a person drinks in two and a half years.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, according to statements by the European Parliament, textile production is responsible for approximately 20% of the world’s drinking water pollution from dyes and finishing products.<\/p>\n

Microplastics contained in textiles are released during the first few washes. The concept of “fast fashion”, in fact, encourages many of these first washes to occur due to mass production, low prices and high sales volume. Thus, synthetic laundry accounts for 35% of the primary microplastics released into the environment. A single load of polyester clothing can shed 700,000 microplastic fibres that can enter the food chain. Much of this microplastic waste has ended up at the bottom of the oceans and has a very negative impact on the health of the local population, animals and the ecosystems where the factories are located.<\/p>\n

In addition, the fashion industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions, more than international flights and shipping combined. According to the European Environment Agency, in 2020, textile purchases in the EU generated around 270 kg of CO2 emissions per person.<\/p>\n

Between 2000 and 2015 alone, clothing production doubled. In Europe, almost 26 kg are consumed and about 11 kg of textiles are discarded every year. Eighty-seven percent of used clothing ends up in landfills.
\nAccording to the waste directive adopted by the European Parliament in 2018, Member States have to set up separate collection of textiles by 2025. The new measures also include action to address the presence of hazardous chemicals, increase the responsibility of manufacturers throughout the value chain, including when they become waste, and help consumers to choose sustainable textile products.<\/p>\n

The Ocean Art Project, a project of the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage UPV, aims to raise awareness among young people and children about this problem, always giving a positive vision of hope for the future. With this in mind, in January 2024, the course “SDG 14: Natural dyes for the sustainable conservation of the marine environment” was held through CEFIRE GVA for kindergarten, primary and secondary school teachers, with the aim that they can pass on the information to their students.<\/p>\n
