En el siglo I d.C crearon una fortificaci\u00f3n sobre la colina de Bl\u00f6skopf, a orillas del r\u00edo Lahn, descubierta en 2019. En 2023, durante las excavaciones situadas en la actual localidad alemana de Bad Ems, los arque\u00f3logos encontraron una serie de 23 p\u00faas afiladas de madera, convirti\u00e9ndose en la primera evidencia arqueol\u00f3gica de <em>pila fossata. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hasta hoy, s\u00f3lo se ten\u00eda constancia de ellos a trav\u00e9s de fuentes escritas. Una de las m\u00e1s conocidas es la <em>Guerra de las Galias<\/em>. Cuenta que, durante su primera campa\u00f1a en las tierras de la actual Francia, el futuro dictador Julio C\u00e9sar \u201clevant\u00f3 un baluarte y un muro de doce pies de altura; a esto a\u00f1adi\u00f3 un parapeto y las almenas, con grandes estacas cortadas como cuernos de ciervo para impedir que el enemigo escalara, y rode\u00f3 toda la obra con torreones\u201d, seg\u00fan se detalla en los textos.<\/p>\n<p>Tras un largo per\u00edodo de investigaci\u00f3n, los conservadores de la Universidad de Goethe de Fr\u00e1ncfort del Meno, desvelan por primera vez estas afiladas p\u00faas. \u201cEstos hallazgos arqueol\u00f3gicos est\u00e1n excepcionalmente bien conservados debido a la gran humedad del suelo y al escaso ox\u00edgeno que hab\u00eda al estar cubiertas por densas capas de sedimentos. En mis 35 a\u00f1os de actividad profesional nunca me hab\u00eda topado con capas de sedimentos tan firmemente adheridas\u201d, afirma el experto del Centro de Conservaci\u00f3n de Arqueolog\u00eda LEIZA.<\/p>\n<p>El mayor de los campamentos enfocados a la miner\u00eda de una plata que apenas merec\u00eda el esfuerzo ocupaba una superficie de 8 hect\u00e1reas, fortificado tambi\u00e9n con <em>pilla fossata<\/em> y una gran muralla de tierra y adobe donde se resguardaban hasta 3.000 legionarios romanos.<br \/>\n__<\/p>\n<p><strong>Researchers working on excavations of a fortification north of the Rhine River have discovered, for the first time, the remains of a weapon used by Roman legionaries to defend themselves.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This small fortification was intended to protect silver mines and has revealed 23 sharp wooden spikes set in V-shaped ditches.<\/p>\n<p>It was in the woods on the border of the Rhine that thousands of legionaries lost their lives in battles against the Germanic tribes. In the 1st century AD they created a fortification on the Bl\u00f6skopf hill on the banks of the Lahn River, discovered in 2019. In 2023, during excavations located in the present-day German town of Bad Ems, archaeologists found a series of 23 sharp wooden spikes, becoming the first archaeological evidence of <em>pila fossata.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Until today, they were only known through written sources. One of the best known is the Gallic War. It tells how, during his first campaign in the lands of present-day France, the future dictator Julius Caesar &#8220;erected a bastion and a wall twelve feet high; to this he added a parapet and battlements, with large stakes cut like stag&#8217;s horns to prevent the enemy from climbing, and surrounded the whole work with turrets,&#8221; as detailed in the texts.<\/p>\n<p>After a long period of research, the curators of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main unveil these sharp spikes for the first time. &#8220;These archaeological finds are exceptionally well preserved due to the high soil moisture and low oxygen as they were covered by dense layers of sediment.
