      A\u00d1O INTERNACIONAL DE LA CONSERVACI\u00d3N DE LOS GLACIARES<\/h3>\n

      La\u00a0Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas<\/strong>\u00a0ha designado\u00a02025<\/strong>\u00a0como el\u00a0A\u00f1o Internacional de la Conservaci\u00f3n de los Glaciares<\/strong>, reconociendo la importancia cr\u00edtica de estos ecosistemas en la regulaci\u00f3n del clima global y el suministro de agua dulce. Esta iniciativa busca aumentar la conciencia global sobre el papel fundamental de los glaciares, la nieve y el hielo en el sistema clim\u00e1tico, as\u00ed como sobre los impactos econ\u00f3micos, sociales y ambientales de los cambios inminentes en la cri\u00f3sfera terrestre.<\/p>\n

      La\u00a0UNESCO<\/strong>\u00a0y la\u00a0Organizaci\u00f3n Meteorol\u00f3gica Mundial (OMM)<\/strong>, en estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n con numerosos socios, co-coordinar\u00e1n la implementaci\u00f3n de este a\u00f1o internacional, con el objetivo de involucrar a responsables pol\u00edticos, cient\u00edficos, sociedad civil y al p\u00fablico en general en una campa\u00f1a de un a\u00f1o de duraci\u00f3n para destacar la necesidad urgente de preservar los glaciares.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Adem\u00e1s, se ha proclamado el 21 de marzo de cada a\u00f1o como el D\u00eda Mundial de los Glaciares, a partir de 2025, para reforzar la sensibilizaci\u00f3n y promover acciones concretas en favor de la conservaci\u00f3n de estos vitales recursos naturales.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Esta declaraci\u00f3n subraya la urgencia de adoptar medidas efectivas para proteger los glaciares, que est\u00e1n retrocediendo a un ritmo sin precedentes debido al cambio clim\u00e1tico, amenazando ecosistemas, comunidades y econom\u00edas en todo el mundo.<\/span><\/p>\n

      El derretimiento de los glaciares no solo tiene consecuencias ambientales y econ\u00f3micas, sino tambi\u00e9n profundas implicaciones culturales. Estas masas de hielo, que han sido testigos de la historia humana y natural, est\u00e1n profundamente ligadas a la identidad, las tradiciones y el patrimonio de numerosas comunidades en todo el mundo:<\/p>\n

      • Tradiciones y mitos:<\/strong> Muchas culturas ind\u00edgenas y comunidades locales consideran los glaciares como entidades sagradas, fuentes de mitos y leyendas, o s\u00edmbolos de su conexi\u00f3n espiritual con la naturaleza. Su desaparici\u00f3n pone en riesgo estas tradiciones culturales.<\/li>\n
      • Rituales y pr\u00e1cticas:<\/strong> En regiones como los Andes o el Himalaya, los glaciares est\u00e1n asociados con ceremonias religiosas y rituales que celebran su poder como \"dadores de vida\". La p\u00e9rdida de estos glaciares puede provocar el olvido de estas pr\u00e1cticas.<\/li>\n
      • Revelaci\u00f3n de restos hist\u00f3ricos:<\/strong> A medida que los glaciares se derriten, emergen restos arqueol\u00f3gicos, cuerpos momificados y herramientas antiguas que hab\u00edan estado preservados durante siglos. Si no se gestionan adecuadamente, estos hallazgos pueden deteriorarse r\u00e1pidamente al estar expuestos al aire y las temperaturas actuales.<\/li>\n

        INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF GLACIER CONSERVATION<\/h3>\n
        \n\t

        The United Nations General Assembly<\/strong> has designated 2025<\/strong> as the International Year of Glacier Conservation<\/strong>, recognizing the critical importance of these ecosystems in regulating global climate and freshwater supply. This initiative seeks to increase global awareness of the fundamental role of glaciers, snow and ice in the climate system, as well as the economic, social and environmental impacts of impending changes in the Earth's cryosphere.<\/p>\n

        UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in close collaboration with numerous partners, will co-coordinate the implementation of this international year, with the aim of engaging policy-makers, scientists, civil society and the general public in a year-long campaign to highlight the urgent need to preserve glaciers.<\/p>\n

        In addition, March 21 of each year has been proclaimed as World Glacier Day, starting in 2025, to reinforce awareness and promote concrete actions in favor of the conservation of these vital natural resources.<\/p>\n

        This declaration underscores the urgency of taking effective measures to protect glaciers, which are retreating at an unprecedented rate due to climate change, threatening ecosystems, communities and economies around the world.<\/p>\n

        The melting of glaciers has not only environmental and economic consequences, but also profound cultural implications. These ice masses, which have witnessed human and natural history, are deeply linked to the identity, traditions and heritage of numerous communities around the world:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Traditions and myths: Many indigenous cultures and local communities consider glaciers as sacred entities, sources of myths and legends, or symbols of their spiritual connection to nature. Their disappearance threatens these cultural traditions.<\/li>\n
        • Rituals and practices: In regions such as the Andes or the Himalayas, glaciers are associated with religious ceremonies and rituals that celebrate their power as \u201cgivers of life\u201d. The loss of these glaciers may cause these practices to be forgotten.<\/li>\n
        • Revealing historical remains: As glaciers melt, archaeological remains, mummified bodies and ancient tools that have been preserved for centuries emerge. If not properly managed, these finds can deteriorate rapidly when exposed to the current air and temperatures.<\/li>\n
        • Loss of heritage sites: Some glaciers in regions such as the Alps or the Andes are considered part of humanity's cultural and natural heritage. Their disappearance means the loss of these unique landscapes that are symbols of identity for local communities.<\/li>\n
        • Disappearance of iconic landscapes: Glaciers attract millions of visitors each year. Their melting affects associated cultural tourism, which in turn impacts the economies and livelihoods of the communities that depend on this activity.<\/li>\n
        • Change in cultural narratives: The loss of glaciers can alter how communities tell their history and relate to their environment, changing cultural narratives that have been passed down from generation to generation.<\/li>\n
        • Art and literature: Glaciers have been a source of inspiration for artists, poets, and writers for centuries. Their disappearance reduces the possibilities for artistic expression related to these landscapes.<\/li>\n
        • Cultural identity: In many cultures, glaciers are symbols of strength, purity and eternity. Their loss can impact the cultural identity of communities that consider them an essential part of their symbolic world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Glacier melt is a reminder of how climate change not only transforms the environment, but also the cultures and human histories that are deeply intertwined with these landscapes.
