DÍA DEL MAESTRO Y LA MAESTRA EN ESPAÑA

El 27 de noviembre se celebra el Día del Maestro en España. A nivel mundial, la UNESCO y la Organización Internacional del Trabajo establecieron el Día Mundial de los Docentes el 5 de octubre. Sin embargo, la diferencia de fecha entre la celebración mundial y la nacional se debe a que se trata de una fiesta nacional, buscando, no sólo rendir homenaje a todos los docentes, profesores y maestros, sino también al patrón de los profesores: San José de Calasanz.

San José de Calasanz fue un sacerdote, pedagogo y creador de la educación moderna, además del fundador de la primera escuela popular cristiana y gratuita de toda Europa. Las escuelas pías fueron creadas en el siglo XVII y hoy en día, se encuentran repartidas por todo el mundo.

En Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural UPV, sabemos lo importante que resulta la labor de los maestros. La educación permite la movilidad socioeconómica ascendente y es la clave, según la ONU para salir de la pobreza. La Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible de la ONU contempla la necesidad de una educación de calidad a través del Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible número 4. Para lograr las metas de este Objetivo, es necesaria la participación de los maestros, como agentes fundamentales para la persecución de este objetivo.

Felicidades a todos los protagonistas en el día de hoy y enhorabuena por la labor que ejercéis con los jóvenes y más pequeños porque en ellos se encuentra nuestro futuro.

TEACHER’SA DAY IN SPAIN

Teacher’s Day is celebrated in Spain on November 27. Worldwide, UNESCO and the International Labor Organization established World Teachers’ Day on October 5. However, the difference in date between the global and national celebration is due to the fact that it is a national holiday, seeking not only to pay tribute to all teachers, professors and teachers, but also to the patron saint of teachers: San José de Calasanz.
Saint Joseph Calasanz was a priest, pedagogue and creator of modern education, as well as the founder of the first Christian and free popular school in Europe. The pious schools were created in the 17th century and today, they are spread all over the world.

At UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage UPV, we know how important the work of teachers is. Education allows upward socioeconomic mobility and is the key, according to the UN, to get out of poverty. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN contemplates the need for quality education through Sustainable Development Goal number 4. To achieve the goals of this Goal, the participation of teachers is necessary, as fundamental agents for the pursuit of this objective.
