Hoy, 5 de octubre, se celebra el Día Mundial de los Docentes. Desde el año 1994, cada día como el de hoy se conmemora esta profesión para valorar esta figura tan importante en la vida de todas las personas.
Se eligió esta fecha para conmemorar esta labor protagonizada por la pasión y la dedicación para hacerla coincidir con la suscripción de la Recomendación de la Organización Mundial del Trabajo y la UNESCO relativa a la Situación del Personal Docente del año 1966. En este informe se exponen los criterios que definen los derechos y las responsabilidades que tienen los docentes. También se reflejan las normas relacionadas con su formación, así como las condiciones de contratación o aprendizaje, entre otros factores. Este documento se completó en 1997 con la adopción de la Recomendación relativa a la Condición del Personal Docente en la Enseñanza Superior. Este Día se celebra de manera oficial en una colaboración conjunta de la UNESCO, UNICEF, la Organización Internacional del Trabajo y la Internacional de Educación.
Como lema, este año, el Día Mundial de los Docentes, se presenta con “La transformación de la educación comienza con las y los docentes”. Con esta reflexión se pretende analizar la problemática actual a la que se enfrentan los docentes y proponer formas de mejora en la calidad de la educación y en las condiciones laborales. Este concepto se encuentra en total consonancia con el Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 4: Educación de Calidad, de la Agenda 2030 planteada por la ONU.
En este Día del Docente, algunos datos que alarman son los que ofrece la UNESCO sobre el déficit de profesorado alrededor del mundo. Las cifras indican que faltan 69 millones de docentes para llegar a todos.
Por todo ello, siempre, y especialmente hoy, es el Día de una de las figuras que ayudan a construir y formar personalidades que van a agradecer, mantener y difundir, las trazas de unas manos generosas y altruistas.

WORLD TEACHERS' DAY
Today, October 5th, is World Teachers' Day. Since 1994, every day like today, this profession is commemorated to value this important figure in the lives of all people.
This date was chosen to commemorate this work, characterized by passion and dedication, to coincide with the signing of the 1966 Recommendation of the World Labor Organization and UNESCO concerning the Status of Teachers. This report sets out the criteria defining the rights and responsibilities of teachers. It also reflects the standards related to their training, as well as hiring or apprenticeship conditions, among other factors. This document was completed in 1997 with the adoption of the Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel. The Day is officially celebrated in a joint collaboration between UNESCO, UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and Education International.
This year's theme for World Teachers' Day is "Transforming education begins with teachers". The aim of this reflection is to analyze the current problems faced by teachers and to propose ways to improve the quality of education and working conditions. This concept is fully in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, of the 2030 Agenda proposed by the UN.
On this Teachers' Day, some alarming data is provided by UNESCO on the teacher shortage around the world. The figures indicate that there is a shortage of 69 million teachers to reach everyone.
For all these reasons, it is always, and especially today, the Day of one of the figures that help to build and form personalities that will thank, maintain and spread the traces of generous and altruistic hands.
