RESEÑA CHARLA “60 MINUTOS CON… FEDERICO MAYOR ZARAGOZA”

Ayer, 26 de enero de 2023, la Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural de la Universitat Politècnica de València tuvo el inmenso placer de inaugurar el ciclo de charlas “60 minutos con…” en compañía de D. Federico Mayor Zaragoza.

Federico Mayor Zaragoza fue Director General de la UNESCO entre 1987 y 1999 y principal impulsor de la creación del programa UNITWIN/ Cátedras UNESCO. Además, ha ocupado otros cargos de especial relevancia nacionales e internacionales y desde el año 2000 ostenta la presidencia de la Fundación Cultura de Paz.

El encuentro fue dirigido por Dª.  María Victoria Vivancos, directora de la Cátedra UNESCO quien realizó y coordinó esta charla a través de preguntas y reflexiones. El Profesor nos habló entre otros temas sobre cuáles fueron los orígenes del programa de Cátedras UNESCO-UNITWIN haciendo hincapié sobre la importancia y el papel que la Educación, la Cultura y el Patrimonio Cultural tienen o pueden tener, en el mundo actual para contribuir en la construcción y consolidación de una cultura de paz.

Don Federico Mayor recalcó la importancia y el papel decisorio de las Cátedras UNESCO por la labor de acercar la educación y la cultura a la sociedad a través de la Universidad, siempre teniendo como objetivo el conseguir una sociedad multilateral. A su vez, señaló que, tal y como indica la UNESCO, los pilares básicos de la educación deben basarse en “aprender a ser”; y añadió que debemos aprender a conocer, a hacer, a construir y a emprender. En su discurso mencionó en todo momento, el atrevimiento a poner en marcha todo lo anterior, animando a todas las personas a ser “actores” de esta sociedad, de la que apuntó “no es una época de cambios; sino un cambio de época”.

Resumir el evento de ayer en una noticia nos resulta difícil. Sin embargo, cerramos esta entrada citando una de las frases que nos ofreció ayer D. Federico Mayor: “A pesar de todo, no olvidemos que el mejor patrimonio de la humanidad es el ser humano”.

REVIEW TALK “60 MINUTES WITH… FEDERICO MAYOR ZARAGOZA”

Yesterday, January 26, 2023, the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage of the Universitat Politècnica de València had the immense pleasure of inaugurating the series of talks “60 minutes with…” in the company of Mr. Federico Mayor Zaragoza.

D. Federico Mayor Zaragoza was Director General of UNESCO between 1987 and 1999 and main promoter of the creation of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs program. He has also held other positions of special national and international relevance and since 2000 he has held the presidency of the Culture of Peace Foundation.

The meeting was led by Ms. María Victoria Vivancos, director of the UNESCO Chair, who conducted and coordinated this talk through questions and reflections. Among other topics, the Professor spoke about the origins of the UNESCO-UNITWIN Chairs program, emphasizing the importance and role that Education, Culture and Cultural Heritage have or can have in today’s world to contribute to the construction and consolidation of a culture of peace.

Mr. Federico Mayor stressed the importance and decisive role of the UNESCO Chairs in bringing education and culture closer to society through the University, always with the objective of achieving a multilateral society. In turn, he pointed out that, as indicated by UNESCO, the basic pillars of education should be based on “learning to be”; and added that we must learn to know, to do, to build and to undertake. In his speech he mentioned at all times, the daring to put all of the above into action, encouraging all people to be “actors” of this society, of which he pointed out “it is not a time of change; but a change of time”.

It is difficult for us to summarize yesterday’s event in a single news item. However, we close this entry by quoting one of the phrases offered yesterday by Mr. Federico Mayor: “In spite of everything, let us not forget that the best heritage of humanity is the human being”.
