SEMANA INTERNACIONAL DE LA EDUCACIÓN ARTÍSTICA

Instituciones educativas, organizaciones culturales y comunidades celebran esta semana la Semana Internacional de la Educación Artística, una iniciativa impulsada por la UNESCO que busca promover el valor de las artes en la educación y el desarrollo social.

Durante esta semana, se realizan talleres, exposiciones, clases abiertas, conferencias y actividades interdisciplinarias que invitan a reflexionar sobre el lugar que ocupa la cultura en los procesos formativos. El objetivo es claro: subrayar que la educación artística no es un complemento, sino un componente esencial para el desarrollo completo de las personas.

Expertos en pedagogía coinciden en que las artes visuales, la música, el teatro, la danza y otras expresiones culturales fomentan habilidades fundamentales como la creatividad, el pensamiento crítico, la empatía y la resolución de problemas. Además, constituyen una herramienta poderosa para fortalecer la identidad, la memoria colectiva y la cohesión social.

En muchos países, sin embargo, la educación artística sigue estando relegada frente a materias consideradas “prioritarias”. La Semana Internacional de la Educación Artística busca también incidir en los tomadores de decisiones, promoviendo políticas educativas que garanticen el acceso equitativo a experiencias culturales y artísticas de calidad.

La UNESCO ha recordado que la cultura y la educación son derechos humanos interdependientes. La directora general del organismo, Audrey Azoulay, expresó en un comunicado que “la educación artística no solo enriquece el conocimiento, sino que cultiva el alma”.

En un mundo marcado por la incertidumbre y los desafíos globales, la educación artística se presenta como una herramienta clave para imaginar y construir un futuro más justo, inclusivo y humano. La Semana Internacional de la Educación Artística no solo celebra el arte, sino que reitera un mensaje urgente: sin cultura no hay educación completa, y sin educación no hay desarrollo sostenible.

Educational institutions, cultural organisations and communities are celebrating this week the International Arts Education Week, an initiative promoted by UNESCO that seeks to promote the value of the arts in education and social development.

During this week, workshops, exhibitions, open classes, conferences and interdisciplinary activities will be held, inviting reflection on the place of culture in educational processes. The aim is clear: to emphasise that arts education is not an add-on, but an essential component for the full development of individuals.

Experts in pedagogy agree that visual arts, music, theatre, dance and other cultural expressions foster fundamental skills such as creativity, critical thinking, empathy and problem solving. They are also a powerful tool for strengthening identity, collective memory and social cohesion.

In many countries, however, arts education continues to take a back seat to subjects considered ‘priorities’. The International Arts Education Week also seeks to influence decision-makers by promoting education policies that guarantee equitable access to quality cultural and artistic experiences.

UNESCO has recalled that culture and education are interdependent human rights. The organisation's director general, Audrey Azoulay, said in a statement that ‘arts education not only enriches knowledge, but also cultivates the soul’.

In a world marked by uncertainty and global challenges, arts education is a key tool for imagining and building a more just, inclusive and humane future. The International Arts Education Week not only celebrates art, but reiterates an urgent message: without culture there is no complete education, and without education there is no sustainable development.
