DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA CIENCIA PARA LA PAZ Y EL DESARROLLO

El 10 de noviembre se celebra el Día Mundial de la Ciencia para la Paz y el Desarrollo, destacando el gran papel de la ciencia en sociedad y la necesidad de hacer partícipe a las personas de los debates sobre temas científicos emergentes. Esta efeméride también subraya la importancia y relevancia de la ciencia en nuestro día a día.

Este año, la celebración se realiza bajo el lema “Generar confianza en la ciencia”, entendiendo que esa confianza es la mejor herramienta para configurar un futuro colectivo impulsado por el desarrollo y la aplicación de soluciones basadas en evidencia para resolver los múltiples desafíos a los que se enfrenta nuestro mundo actualmente.

Este es el mensaje que manda la Directora General de la UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, el día de hoy, 10 de noviembre:

“Es innegable que la ciencia atesora el potencial de hacer que nuestro mundo cambie para mejor. Las vacunas, por ejemplo, han sido decisivas para atajar la propagación de enfermedades como la COVID-19, el sarampión o la poliomielitis. Las innovaciones en materia de energía y agricultura han permitido obtener un mayor rendimiento de los cultivos y reducir el consumo de plaguicidas, fertilizantes y agua. Un aspecto fundamental de todos estos avances es la investigación científica”

WORLD SCIENCE DAY OF PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

November 10 marks World Science Day for Peace and Development, highlighting the important role of science in society and the need to engage people in debates on emerging scientific issues. This ephemeris also underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.

This year, the celebration is held under the slogan “Building trust in science”, with the understanding that trust is the best tool to shape a collective future driven by the development and application of evidence-based solutions to solve the many challenges facing our world today.

This is the message sent by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay today, November 10:

“It is undeniable that science treasures the potential to make our world change for the better. Vaccines, for example, have been instrumental in stopping the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, measles and polio. Innovations in energy and agriculture have led to higher crop yields and reduced consumption of pesticides, fertilizers and water. A fundamental aspect of all these advances is scientific research”.
