Una iniciativa de la UPV, con la colaboración de la Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural, dedicada a la recuperación de la memoria fotográfica afectada por la DANA.

Sus Majestades los Reyes de España, Felipe VI y Letizia, realizaron una visita institucional a la Universitat Politècnica de València para conocer de primera mano el proyecto Salvem les Fotos, una iniciativa orientada a la recuperación, conservación y restitución de fotografías familiares dañadas por las inundaciones provocadas por la DANA que afectó a la provincia de Valencia el 29 octubre de 2024. El proyecto se enmarca en las iniciativas impulsadas apenas unos días después de la DANA por la Xarxa d’Universitats Públiques Valencianes per a la Cultura, junto con el Consejo Internacional de Museos (ICOM), el Grupo Español de Conservación (GE-IIC) y el Museu Valencia d'Etnología (L'ETNO).

Don Felipe y Doña Letizia han visitado los laboratorios de la Facultad de Bellas Artes donde el equipo de la UPV trabaja desde el 4 noviembre de 2024, y han podido conocer de mano de los coordinadores del proyecto -Esther Nebot Díaz, Pilar Soriano Sancho y Pedro Vicente-Mullor- el trabajo desarrollado a lo largo de todos estos meses. Durante el recorrido por las instalaciones en las que se desarrolla el proyecto, conocieron el proceso técnico y científico aplicado para la recuperación de los fondos fotográficos, así como el impacto social y emocional que esta labor tiene para las familias afectadas.

El proyecto Salvem les Fotos se ha desarrollado con la colaboración activa de la Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural de la Universitat Politècnica de València, que ha participado de manera significativa en su creación e impulso. Desde el inicio, la Cátedra identificó la necesidad de articular una respuesta inmediata ante la situación crítica vivida en Valencia, entendiendo la recuperación de estas imágenes como una actuación prioritaria de apoyo social y de salvaguarda de la memoria colectiva.

Gracias a este impulso, el proyecto ha permitido articular un trabajo conjunto entre personal investigador, profesorado, estudiantado y voluntariado especializado, consolidándose como un ejemplo de cómo la universidad pública, a través de estructuras como el Instituto de Restauración del Patrimonio y la Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural, puede contribuir de manera eficaz a la atención de emergencias patrimoniales.

La visita de Sus Majestades los Reyes ha supuesto un reconocimiento institucional al trabajo desarrollado y al compromiso de la Universitat Politècnica de València y de la Cátedra UNESCO Forum Universidad y Patrimonio Cultural con la sociedad valenciana y con la preservación de su patrimonio y su memoria.

An initiative by the UPV, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage, dedicated to recovering photographic memories affected by the DANA.

Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, paid an official visit to the Polytechnic University of Valencia to learn first-hand about the Salvem les Fotos project, an initiative aimed at recovering, conserving and restoring family photographs damaged by the floods caused by the DANA that affected the province of Valencia on 29 October 2024. The project is part of the initiatives launched just a few days after the DANA by the Xarxa d'Universitats Públiques Valencianes per a la Cultura (Network of Valencian Public Universities for Culture), together with the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the Spanish Conservation Group (GE-IIC) and the Valencia Museum of Ethnology (L'ETNO).

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Fine Arts, where the UPV team has been working since 4 November 2024, and were able to learn about the work carried out over the past few months from the project coordinators, Esther Nebot Díaz, Pilar Soriano Sancho and Pedro Vicente-Mullor. During the tour of the facilities where the project is being carried out, they learned about the technical and scientific process applied to the recovery of the photographic collections, as well as the social and emotional impact that this work has on the families affected.

The Salvem les Fotos project has been developed with the active collaboration of the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which has participated significantly in its creation and promotion. From the outset, the Chair identified the need to coordinate an immediate response to the critical situation in Valencia, understanding the recovery of these images as a priority action for social support and the safeguarding of collective memory.

Thanks to this momentum, the project has enabled joint work between researchers, teaching staff, students and specialised volunteers, establishing itself as an example of how public universities, through structures such as the Heritage Restoration Institute and the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage, can contribute effectively to heritage emergencies.

The visit by Their Majesties the King and Queen has provided institutional recognition of the work carried out and the commitment of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the UNESCO Chair Forum University and Cultural Heritage to Valencian society and the preservation of its heritage and memory.
